Stained glass window Grisaglia/Grisaille
The term Grisaglia or Grisaille refers to both the coloring technique and the color itself used to render the shadows, outline the contours, the details of the complexion, emphasize the folds of a drapery or give modeling effects.
The Grisaglia stained glass window is hand painted and cooked over high heat and can have an opaque or transparent appearance in relation to the application of the more or less thin layers. It can also take on different shades: from black to brown to greenish, depending on the pigment used.
To create an artistic Grisaglia stained glass window, the color is applied with a brush mainly on the internal part of the glass tiles and partially on the external ones. The color is then fixed to the substrate by firing it in an oven at 600 °, since the temperature must be lower than the melting temperature of the glass, but sufficient for the color to adhere perfectly to the surface.
From the top of its thirty years of experience, Lauretana Arte has made the Grisaglia technique its own over the years, developing new solutions to improve work times, the technical execution of the various steps and the final quality.
