Among the techniques that allow the most spectacular results is the Dalle de Verre ("sheet of glass" translated from French). The Dalle de Verre consists in the assembly of colored glass of a certain thickness (2 - 2.5 cm.) With a square or rectangular shape and up to 3 cm in size, which are broken and shaped with a saw or a hammer. The edges of the resulting pieces can be chipped or faceted, to increase their ability to refract light. The pieces are then arranged following a design and placed inside a wooden frame on a bed of sand, on which a mix of sand and cement or epoxy resin is then poured. After the drying time (about 24 hours), the glass looks like a solid sheet and the glass surface is cleaned, while the panel can be moved, incorporated or hung.
The Dalle de Verre technique produces high-impact chromatic effects, which are highlighted above all when the window or the panel are illuminated by light, both natural and artificial. The characteristic of Dalle de Verre is, in fact, the refraction of light: the tile is cut not only vertically but also obliquely, creating surfaces that are anything but smooth and homogeneous, giving rise to various and intense plays of light.
Demanding in processing, especially for figures or details, Dalle de Verre finds application in sacred, public, residential and street furniture.
From the top of its thirty years of experience, Lauretana Arte has made the Dalle de Verre technique its own over the years, developing new solutions to improve work times, the technical execution of the various steps and the final quality.
The photos are an example of the process; we do not produce mass-produced products but we work on commission, adapting to the needs and requests of the customer.
