The altar is inside the first transept and it stands on a platform consisting of two encircling steps made of polished grey marble. Its shape is quadrangular (1.50 metres per side and 1.00 metres in height).
The mensa is a 20 cm high and it is made of monolithic block of white marble from Carrara. The surface is polished and in the middle it presents a marble element of the antique Sicilian Jasper.
