Baptismal Font - CHIESA S. MARIA AUSILIATRICE (CIVITANOVA MARCHE)
Stone
The baptismal font is also designed to be enjoyed through the rite of baptism via immersion. In fact, there is a central basin accessed by descending three steps and in which the baptising person receives the Sacrament of Baptism.
On one side the rough stone rises and from a small fissure running through it gushes the purifying water of Baptism, which is first collected in a 'natural basin' created in the rock to allow the rite by sprinkling, then reaches the basin of water below for the rite of Baptism by immersion.
