AMBO OF BASILICA OF ST. JOHN LATERAN, ROME
Stone, Marble
Costantinian
The Carrara marble ambo for the Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano was designed with the classical shape of the Roman ambo. It has an architectural structure that recalls the twisted columns and entablatures of the Presider’s Chair and the Papal Altar. On the front, an ancient restored pluteus dating back to the original Basilica of the Constantinian era was applied.
The lectern, the eagle, and the bronze bas-reliefs are other essential plastic elements that contribute to making the new artwork the focus of attention for the Liturgy of the Word.
