Jubilee of 2000: the memory of a hypnotically Papal Cope

Before the Jubilee of 2025, let's review together the peculiarities of Pope John Paul II's cope for the Jubilee of 2000.
In the Catholic Christian world, the Jubilee year stands as the time of remission of sins, spiritual renewal, conversion and penitence. There have been several Jubilees since 1300, year of its origin, but not everyone remembers the garments worn on these particular occasions.

A memorable chapter in this religious tradition was Pope John Paul II's Jubilee of the year 2000, an important moment of transition from the second to the third millennium. More than 4,000 jubilee vestments were realized for the occasion. The colors of these sacred vestments, particularly evident on the Pontifical Cope, immediately generated a hypnotic effect on the faithful who admired them, and who still admire them by looking at images of the time. Particular attention was given to the arrangement of the colours of red, blue and gold. This should symbolize cosmic order in both nature and man world. Among these three colours, gold is a clear reference to the theme of the celebration, which is the door opened by the Pontiff, a moment that occurred at midnight on December 24, 1999. The shade of gold, tending more toward yellow, was then echoed in the pure silk lining of the liturgical vestment. Lastly, the elegant jacquard mantle was closed by a fine seal also in gold, an added touch of shine that is thus offered to the final composition of the vestment.

If the liturgical cope of the year 2000 has left a well-defined impression in the memory of the faithful, curiosity is now turned toward the possible design and material proposals that will be confirmed in view of the Jubilee of 2025, not forgetting that the theme for the occasion will be "Pilgrims of Hope."
