New record: the tallest statue of Our Lady in the world

The tallest statue of Our Lady in the world has been erected near the shrine of Our Lady of Aparecida, Brazil.
Less than a month ago, on the 7th of October 2023, another statue of the Virgin Mary was realized. This is large in size and bigger than Christ the Redeemer. It is among the largest religious monuments in Brazil and in the world.

We are always in Brazil, in Aparecida, the city that hosts the country's largest shrine dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The statue of Our Lady Aparecida is a large steel structure of 50 metres high. This sacred monument cost 10 million reais, the local currency, and was realised six years later than planned. The project, in fact, had been announced in 2017, but had to be delayed due to a lawsuit that had been filed by the Brazilian Association of Atheists and Agnostics (Atea).

The entire metal sculpture represents the tallest statue dedicated to Our Lady, surpassing the one that used to hold that record until not long ago. We are referring to the statue of Our Lady of the Philippines ("Mother of All Asia - Tower of Peace"), which is 48 metres tall, two metres less than the current one in Brazil.
